Ayurvedic Lymphatic Breast Massage
Lymphatic Breast Massage helps restore flow and energy where things have become stagnant. While it focuses on the breasts, it also supports the whole lymphatic system.
Unlike the very light touch of Lymphatic Drainage, this technique uses deeper, firmer pressure with hands and Gua Sha tools. In my experience, it can make a real difference in the tissues, clearing blocked lymph nodes, softening cysts, and encouraging renewal.
As we bring movement and flow where there was stagnation, we also honor the stories and experiences woven into the breasts and heart space.
This work is an invitation to cultivate a loving relationship with your body, empowering you to notice changes, hear your body's messages, and care for yourself with self-love and devotion.
Our lymphatic system IS our immune system! Without it flowing properly, we're less protected from illness, and don't have our full capacity to heal from birth, injury, or surgery.
Ayurveda refers to lymph as "Rasa", translated as the river of life.
The lymphatic system is like a river within us, carrying our immunity, guiding the ebb and flow of hormones, nourishing our tissues, and carrying away waste products and toxins. When this river slows, hormones and toxins linger, and disease can take root.
The waters of our body, our lymph, are integrally connected to our emotional body, so they can be stagnant and stuck or free and flowing. The breasts, cradled at the heart chakra, are especially prone to holding these emotions of the heart.
This work is truly holistic and powerfully effective.
Many of us have learned to check our breasts for lumps out of fear, but we often haven't been taught about normal breast anatomy or what natural lumpiness feels like. It's important to care for ourselves and truly understand our bodies, not just look for problems.
What I appreciate about Ayurvedic Lymphatic Breast Massage is that it helps us learn what we're feeling, when more screening might be needed, and how to keep our breasts healthy. When we know what's normal for us, we can notice when something changes.
That's real prevention.
Who can benefit from Lymphatic Breast Massage?
1. Any womyn who wants to deepen her relationship to herself, her female body, and her breasts. This work is an opportunity to really tune in to what you have been unconsciously harboring in your heart space and your breasts. Through movement and the breath to release old feelings and emotions, you can rediscover your own heart and the wisdom that is there when we listen.
2. Any womyn who wants to be proactive about her breast health and immune system health. This work is empowering as you move the lymph and stagnation in the breasts, and get to really know your breasts and their ebbs and flows. Receiving from a practitioner and regularly doing self-massage will support your immunity to be at its very best and attune you to hearing its more subtle messages when you start to feel an immuno-challenge.
3. People who have had surgeries like mastectomies, lumpectomies, breast reductions or expansions, or gender-affirming top surgeries can benefit from this massage. It helps soften scar tissue, restore healthy lymph flow, improve skin tone and elasticity, and reduce adhesions, which will increase mobility.
4. Womyn who have fibrocystic breasts, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, painful menses, and other symptoms of hormonal imbalance can greatly benefit from this work in conjunction with their other therapies and nutritional support. Encouraging the lymphatic system to flow optimally can significantly help balance hormones and reduce inflammation.
5. Womyn who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and other immuno-disorders can be supported and empowered to reclaim their health, decrease their pain levels, and support their immune function.
6. Womyn who have edema, swollen glands, fatigue, allergies, or headaches can really find relief from this work. Even cellulite, weight gain, and extra belly fat can be signs of stagnant lymph, so the changes we see in our bodies can be significant.
